Actually, excessive sweating or commonly referred as hyperhidrosis. It is not really a disease however, it can be an embarrassing condition for those who have it.
Hyperhidrosis does not only affect the hands. Some individuals who have this often complain that they cannot even lift their arms because they are afraid of exposing their armpits. Their clothes may even have sweat stains, which can really be bothersome.
Other people may also have problems with too much sweating on their feet. They tend to change socks several times a day because they perspire too much.
What is Hyperhidrosis?
Hyperhidrosis is a condition that may affect any part of the body like palms, soles and underarms. This condition may start during childhood and may continue to your adulthood.
Genetics play an important role hyperhidrosis as it usually run in the families. Patients who have hyperhidrosis usually complain that it affects their way of living. The situation may even gets worse when a person is under stress or when faced under heat.
Causes
Sweat glands are usually found in the soles, underarms and palms. They are also located in the chest, face and in the back. The role of the sweat glands is to relieve the body with excessive heat and higher temperature by excreting fluid.
The sweat glands are often stimulated by emotional stress like a job interview scenario. However, if you have hyperhidrosis, the response of your sweat glands may be quite exaggerated. Oftentimes, the overly reaction of the sweat glands is due to genetics.
Aside from hyperhidrosis, other possible causes of excessive sweating are hormonal changes, thyroid problems, nerve damage, tuberculosis and certain medications.
Ask your doctor if you are not sure for the exact cause of your excessive sweating.
